Otley has had a lot of pubs. Even as a young lad in the town I knew that
Otley once held the title "Most pubs per square mile". Since then, I have
realized that, a lot of towns and cities have held this title, but hey what can
you do?? I like where I live! Well apart from the kids that sit in the bus
station with a bottle of White Lightning®™. But thats not what I am on
about. So what am I on about?? I forget.
nOW IF YOU DIDN'T KNOW (take caps lock off) Otley, is a market town. This meant
before the 'open all day' licence came into effect Otley Pubs could
open all day on Friday's and Saturdays (market days). This encouraged a lot of
people from local (and not so local) communities into the town and the pubs.
This gave Otley a reputation for a while as a place where people could drink all
day and end the evening with a good old fashioned fight! Although this is not
really the case anymore, I have witnessed the odd scuffle (usually outside
Moonies). However where ever you are in the world (able to sell alcohol) the odd
disagreement is bound to take place. Basically Otley's alright. If you don't
live here then come down and have a look, you never know you might like it!!!
Obviously Otley folk are dancing in the street at the moment. Not only do we have
a lot of pubs. We will soon get to stay in them as long as we like!!! I am getting
to like this government!!!
